David Arterburn, MD, MPH

Research Interests:
Dr. Arterburn is a general internist and an obesity health services
researcher, with expertise in the clinical effectiveness of obesity
interventions and systematic reviews. He has recently published articles on
the economics of obesity, obesity pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery,
health-related quality of life assessment, and the health outcomes of
obesity in the elderly. He is the current Chair of the Adult Obesity
Measurement Advisory Panel for the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
He also currently serves as a medical editor for the
Foundation
for Informed Medical Decision Making, and is working with the Foundation
to develop shared decision-making tools in the area of obesity
interventions.
Dr. Arterburn's current research covers a broad range of obesity-related
issues including: obesity performance measurement for health plans,
family-based weight management interventions, depression and obesity risk,
bariatric surgery, and the relationships between the cost of food, the
quality of the diet, and the risk of obesity. He plans to continue his
multidisciplinary research in the areas of obesity and physical activity
while fostering collaborative relationships with the Department of Veterans
Affairs, the University of Washington, national, state, and local policy
leaders, and industry partners.
