Breast Cancer Surveillance (BCS) is a research project led by Diana Buist, PhD, MPH, at the Group Health Center for Health Studies. BCS has been funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) since 1996. It is one of five sites of the national Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (BCSC). Our project collects breast cancer risk factor data from Group Health members when they have a mammogram. We link these data to mammogram assessments, recommendations, and outcomes from radiologist and imaging reports. By pooling our data with data from other sites in the BCSC, we can examine topics like breast cancer risk and mammographic performance across the country.
